Following on from my previous post about my RG35XX woes, I happened across a random youtube video showing that there's a "Switch OS" option in the settings menu that boots you into a pre-installed Garlic OS image.
😮 WTF
That'll teach me to give the instructions at least a brief glance in future.
Problem solved?
Lol, of course not!
This version of Garlic was, at least, consistent in terms of how it failed: 20 or 30 seconds after booting the screen would go black and a restart / reboot was required. This happened from menus and games alike. No use to anyone.
Anyway this has galvanised me to return the unit for a refund instead of holding on for some stable firmware - it seems clear that there's a problem with the hardware.
I've send off my report and packaged up the device and hopefully I'll get my £52 or whatever it is back because...
A new handheld appeared!
Oh my god, I feel like a moron spending money on these things instead of clothes for winter, but a video about the forthcoming Powkiddy RGB320 went up literally yesterday and it's got me excited.
Why? Because it's got a 1:1 aspect ration screen! The thing I'm always looking for to play Pico-8 games!
So the way I'm justifying this to myself is - if I get refunded for the RG35XX, then that's £50 I already spent in last month's budget, and the basic model RGB30 is like £67, so I'm only spending £17 on retrogame hardware... this month. That makes sense, right?
I also suspect the performance on the RGB30 will be much better than the RG35XX based on the few games I got to try on Garlic OS last night. It seemed slow.
Well, that's all I have to say right now. I'm an idiot.
