In the spirit of embracing all the cool things about my Anbernic RG351M I've been busy scraping all the ROM data, setting up retro achievements and adding cloud save functionality.
Of these procedures, only the last has held any real complexity, so I'll run through it here to keep track.
Cloud storage with rclone
In the first instance I'm following the top-level instructions from the Amberelec website.
In a nutshell these say to install rclone on my laptop and run the remote setup procedure to generate a .conf
file.
Then we're into specific instructions about connecting rclone to gdrive and it's kind of a rabbit hole.
Strictly speaking I didn't need to set up my own client ID, but for performance reasons I decided I would, and that took me off on a wild ride following those instructions to set up a google drive API interface and generating tokens so it could authenticate without a browser and whatnot.
The upshot is that - much to my surprise - the service started running with zero problems and I now have a backup folder in my google drive that I think will automatically sync with the 351 when it's on my LAN to backup any save files or screen grabs I take.
I'm actually delighted right now.
I should quit while I'm ahead....
