Week 46

I feel like I got the infinite mushroom in Mario Kart…

… and I'm just hammering it constantly, trying to get ahead while smashing headlong into every obstacle in sight.

Leisure

New strategy: I'll start with the bits that seem most important and work my way down. Agile.

Comics

So here's a win — I drew some comics!

4 A6-ish comics, inked but not cleaned.

I realised while drawing these that the first couple came out better because the volume of content is in proportion with the available space and the range of line-width I can get out of a hunt 102 nib.

The actual page area is 8.5cm x 12cm, which is a kind of arbitrary compromise between A7 (too small) and A5 (too big). It's basically an area that fits onto A6 but is selected for as being a comfortable size to draw in.

Anyway, the area is challenging to squeeze a typical strip into, in a good way because it forces simplicity in dialogue and imagery.

My revelation is that the reason I didn't enjoy the last strip, and I'm unhappy with the result, is because it has too much space.

What I should do is draw each page at a scale tailored to its "volume" 🤯

Skating

Went to the roller disco yesterday on my flexiday, cruised around for an hour or so. It was fine, but my sore knee is still keeping me from taking risks, so I don't feel like I'm progressing.

I'm satisfying myself with increasing my general comfort on the skates, ability to turn, stop etc. 😐

Work

Meh, work's all about pawing through some forms that have been put together on a new 3rd party platform trying to identify improvements.

The sprint's just started so I might get into this more next week.
