Last week of the year. Seems like a good time to get back on the horse. The blogging horse.
Like I said waaaay back in week 46, the last week in October feels like the start of a rollercoaster ride that doesn't stop until this interstitial period between Christmas and Hogmanay, AKA the Merrineum.
So I'm letting myself off the hook for not having blogged during that period. Letting myself off the hook for not keeping up my streak of things is a total theme of 2023, and I continue to consider it a healthy thing for me.
Wrapping up work
Before the Christmas break began I was working on upgrading the component library from Bootstrap 4 to 5. The major part of that was very straightforward, but there were a bunch of breaking changes that were just incredibly tedious to hunt down, and I lost the will to get it finished. So that's hanging over my head a bit for early January.
I spent more of my energy getting somewhat hands-on with design tokens and how they might be implemented in Figma. Although we're having lots of discussions about design tokens, nobody seems to be prepared to actually just start trying to incorporate them into the workflow and I cannot fathom why. I added the Tokens for Figma plugin and started messing around and immediately started learning that things are not going to fit together exactly as we'd envisioned. Now seems like a good time to start DOING and I'm going to be pushing this opinion as soon as I'm back. I'm hoping that we can get a day (or two?!) to actually workshop with the designers before 2024 project work gets underway.
2024 plans
Christmas is over, Hogmanay is tomorrow and I'm filled with the usual feelings of post-holiday crapulence and corresponding aspirations to improve myself in the year to come.
I'll maybe defer my list of goals and activities to a separate post, and my reflections on 2023 to a Yearnotes post or something. This one is just to get me back into the swing of things.
