I'm rushing this on Saturday night at 23:30 just so I've got something out. It's halfway through the year now so perhaps it's a good time for careful reflection and well-chosen words, but we're off interrailing tomorrow and I don't have the time or energy, so here are some notes:
Birthday
I turned 47 a few days ago. C and I went out for a nice meal and I surprised myself by saying I thought the year — since my last birthday — had been good, on the whole.
Roller skating, lacto-fermentation, this diet, retro consoles (all the hobbies!) and work has been good, by and large, and generally life is good. This is somewhat at odds with my knowledge that I've been reasonably unhappy for some big stretches of this time. I don't know what to make of that. Maybe just that having a healthier lifestyle right now is helping me look at things more positively.
Diet
Speaking of which, I've fallen off the keto wagon big style since the carbs and booze of that birthday meal. Today I couldn't resist eating pastries and I'm currently indulging in G&T.
I might just sack it off for this holiday. It feels like it might be too hard to maintain on the move in multiple European countries.
This week's obsession
Rather than re-write the thing let me link to my itch.io post, where I give all the details.
Basically making tiny TTRPG rule booklets. This came on hard and it's tough to have to put it down for a fortnight to travel; the 2nd iteration of my little zine version of Tunnel Goons is looking sweet.
Hopefully I'll actually get to play some of these with the kids while we're away and the momentum will resume when we're back.
Work
NGL I kinda phoned it in this week. There wasn't a lot to do in a concrete sense, so it ended up being an open-ended exploratory piece about how Figma used variables and how the token structure might look, and some other bits and bobs to do with design components and whatnot.
There were a couple of issues in prod that I got pulled away from the design stystem team work to take care of, so I had a reasonable excuse for not getting as much done as I'd hoped.
I will return energised and ready to deliver in the second half of July no doubt.
Conclusion
That's maybe kind of it?
